The term "4th Industrial Revolution" has become commonplace, popping up in various media, but the public's understanding of the underlying technologies is often lagging the fast-pace of its related technological developments. This book is designed to bridge the gap which exists between the 4th industry-related technology boom and the general public's perception of it. With the popularity of artificial intelligence, big data and Internet of Things, business nowadays is featured with technology advancement, open innovation and collaboration. This happens particularly in the manufacturing sectors, known as the Industrial 4.0 or the 4th Industrial Revolution. Alongside this trend, there is also a movement towards servitisation and service innovation. In the financial service sector, FinTech firms, traditional large firms, intermediaries, users and regulators are actively engaged together to develop a smart system of banking, investing and insurance service. Nevertheless, the sector is facing challenges in relation to security, trust and external disruptions. To solve this, first, this article builds an ambidextrous open innovation model with multi-dimensions, which are motivated by the arriving of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Second, this article applies the ambidextrous open innovation model with multi-dimensions to the financial sectors to validate the model basically. Third, this model is applied to several research studies to obtain additional validation of it.

Knowledge and skills of intercultural communication and the employees' familiarity with the cultural practices of their assignments are in demand in many professions. The need for intercultural competence research in the 4th industrial revolution arises from economical, political and labor changes, and increased use of information technology. The article is aimed at revealing the importance of intercultural competence in the organizations during the 4th industrial revolution. The publication presents the main findings of the research, which confirmed that employees' intercultural competence is influenced by their education and age; relationships among intercultural competence of employees and their education and age are moderated by different sectors; expectations towards international cooperation are positively related to the perceived importance of intercultural competence; public sector is different from others because of its expectations and tolerance relation, which is not typical in other sectors.

The covid-19 pandemic hit global sustainability very hard. It slows down worldwide growth and affects health, environment, education, business, and manufacturing worldwide. Global inequality is increasing. The world was under lockdown fully or partially for several months to fight against the coronavirus from the beginning of the declaration of the covid-19 pandemic. During the lockdown, the world mainly depended on different technologies for global mobility and control pandemics, mostly digital technologies. This technological advancement will play a revolutionary role in all the affected areas' sectors during and after the covid-19 pandemic. Where the 4th industrial revolution will run faster to minimise the global losses. The countries are not yet comprised of the 4th industrial revolutionary system, and technologies will require faster adoption of the industry 4.0 standard and technologies to add value to the global value chain. Skill development for the unskilled or low-skilled workforces and the development of the innovative ideas for the new products and services for business and manufacturing will be the key policy issue of the world to adjust with the industry 4.0 standard specification, work and environment to achieve the goals of SDG 2030.

The technologies embedded in the emerging 4th industrial revolution (4IR) –and artificial intelligence (AI) in particular– promise to constitute a disruptive paradigm shift in the future nature and conduct of warfare. These technologies will likely also have a major impact on the competitions between great powers, countries that aspire to be leading regional players or nations that see technology as a critical force multiplier. It is important to understand what new and emerging critical technologies are challenging the traditional warfighting paradigm and how militaries might access and leverage these innovations. This entails an examination of the potential military-technical impact of technologies embedded in the 4IR, as well as the means –generally described as 'military-civil fusion'– for exploiting those technologies for military capability and advantage.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is an autonomous agent that was established to collect taxes on behalf of the state. This mandate is shared across countries where the common thread of revenue collection agencies is that they all need to collect revenue, want participants within the system to act responsibly, the process to be fair and to act within the boundaries of legislation. It has become increasingly challenging for revenue collection agencies across the world to ensure tax compliance and ensure optimal revenue collection when unemployment rates are high, and the economy continues to struggle. It is a shared objective between revenue collection agencies to optimise revenue collection initiative and to narrow the tax gap. The technological advances in all sectors have grown at an exponential rate within a very short period. The WEF (2018) emphasised that the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) brings with it an era of unprecedented innovation, technical change and global connectivity. Technology has become the key driver in assisting SARS to achieve its objectives to inform taxpayers of their responsibilities, make it easy for them to comply and ensure compliance to the tax laws. The primary objective of the research study is to investigate the possible factors that could influence the future state of revenue services, develop a series of alternative scenarios, and provide the preferred future of the South African Revenue Services towards 2030. The Six Pillars of futures studies provide a theory of futures thinking that links method and tools, that is developed through praxis (Inayatullah, 2012). The Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) was the preferred research tool used in this study to deepen the future analysis. Emphasis was placed on scenario planning and the creation of alternative futures for the South African Revenue Services towards 2030. The drivers of change that impacted the economy were identified and how it can be utilised to close the tax gap. SARS has been a victim of seizure where the destabilising of corporate governance and efficiency was the core objective. It is therefore important to understand the past and present to enable better planning. This paper aims to better understand the disruptors to industry and the opportunity to improve efficiency and effectiveness using technology associated with the 4IR. After 33 years (1979-2011) of close to double digit average annual economic growth, the Chinese economy decelerated to a mid-high single digit growth of approximately 7% per year since 2012. The country is currently facing the typical economic transition challenge of moving from being a high-middle income to high income economy. In response to this economic transition, the government launched an industrial innovation program that corresponds to the 4th Industrial Revolution in 2015-Made in China 2025, hoping to stabilize and rejuvenate China's growth momentum through innovation. This thesis examines the pre-conditions for the successful implementation of this plan using the three-levels analysis framework of neo-Schumpeterian Economics -micro, meso, and macro. The thesis examines the rationale of using neo-Schumpeterian Economics in the study, rather than the conventional Solow Model or any of its variants. It also discusses the advantages of using neo-Schumpeterian framework over the New Structural school promoted by prominent Chinese economist, Justin Lin. At the micro-level, the thesis looks at whether the country possesses the necessary human capital, entrepreneurship, innovation, and execution capabilities to implement the plan. For any new industries to succeed in a country, these factors are the necessary micro-level pre-conditions under neo-Schumpeterian Economics.
